When Larry Mingus heads to Jessup, Texas, armed with a ladder, a can of yellow spray paint, and his physicist father’s time travel research, he hopes to find a portal to adventure. What he finds instead might take him to the end of his rope.
“Free Falling” is a 4,000-word short story set in Michael Bunker’s fictional town of Jessup, Texas. His other Jessup stories include “Jessup’s Door” and “Jessup’s Ride.” Though the stories interrelate, they can be read in any order.
(“Free Falling” was originally published under the title “Just Along for the Ride” in the short story anthology Mama Tried.)
